Darren Hayes reclaimed his Savage Garden past and forged a bold new future at his opening concert at the Enmore Theatre last night.
The emboldened pop star, a rarity among male performers these days embraced both his theatrical and emotional persona during a high energy gig.
Hayes showcased his greatest asset, that God given crystalline voice to its upmost potential, hitting notes that had many in the audience naturally questioning if he was miming because we have become so use to so many slumming it live.
But when Hayes sings, not only is it real but you feel every note.
While he gave us a healthy dose of his new record Secret Codes and Battleships, he rewarded loyal fans with musical trips down memory lane, including To the Moon and Back, Insatiable and Popular.
Hayes further stretched the cabaret nature of his performance with an on-stage, behind the screens make-up ritual which mirrored the British pantomimes which he loves.
